A finish inspired by the practice of Shou Sugi Ban, Japanese method of preserving wood by charring it with fire without destroying the wood completely. The result leaves a striking black carbon coating that helps protect the wood. Similarly our light “charring” Creates carbon that brings out a striking contrast on the face of the Ash.

We offer a selection of reclaimed lumber also sometimes called “character grade lumber”. Always sourced locally from the DMV area, we have access to a number of species including; Heart-pine, Chestnut, Oak, Hemlock & Walnut. A patina is a finish over a surface that develops over a period of time due to weather, stress and/or age. It is often used to refer to objects made of metal that have developed a film as a result of chemical reactions, as well as rust. However you can synthetically create such a finish with steel and facilitate the oxidization that creates these beautiful and completely unique finishes.
